Naft Al-Wasat’s story is an incredible one. Founded only a decade ago, the Euphrates Nightingales’ first ever season in the Iraqi Premier League was the 2014/15 season and they sensationally won the league title in their maiden campaign. They followed that season by finishing as runners-up in 2015/16, being ever so close to retaining their title, and participated in two continental competitions, the 2016 AFC Cup and 2017 Arab Club Championship. They haven’t been able to reach their previous heights in the past two seasons but remain prominent on the Iraqi football scene, becoming the first team from outside of Baghdad to reach the final of the Iraqi FA Cup in the 2016/17 season.
