With more top-four finishes than any other team in Iraq, the nation’s oldest existing football club Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya (previously known as Al-Tayaran) are one of the biggest clubs in the country. They, along with Al-Shorta, have played in every single season of the Iraqi Premier League since its foundation in 1974 and have won six titles since then, behind only Al-Zawraa in terms of league titles. On top of that, they have won four Iraqi FA Cups, the most recent of which coming in the 2015/16 season, and were the first team ever to win the domestic quadruple in Iraq, achieving the feat in the 1996/97 season. They added continental honours to their cabinet in 2016, 2017 and 2018, becoming the first club to win the AFC Cup three times in a row with victories over Indian, Tajik and Turkmen opposition in the finals.
