Al-Kahrabaa were promoted to the Iraqi Premier League within just three years of their foundation and their first five seasons in the top-flight saw them being a fairly mid-table club. They improved in the 2009/10 season though as they were only two points away from reaching the semi-finals of the league. The 2010/11 season was another good one for the club as they finished fourth in their 14-team group, but the following season saw them return to mid-table before they were relegated in the 2012/13 season. They were promoted to the 2014/15 Iraqi Premier League alongside Naft Al-Wasat and the team in orange gradually improved, reaching the highest position in their history in 2017/18 as they came fifth.
