Naft Al-Wasat’s story is an incredible one. Founded less than a decade ago, the Euphrates Nightingales’ first ever season in the Iraqi Premier League was the 2014/15 season and they sensationally won the league title in their maiden campaign. They followed that season by finishing as runners-up in 2015/16, being ever so close to retaining their title, and they performed respectably in the 2016 AFC Cup, getting knocked out in the round of 16. Their returning manager Abdul-Ghani Shahad will be hoping that his side can claim their second title next season and also will hope to win the 2016/17 Arab Club Championship.
