Naft Al-Janoob’s first season in the top-flight was in the 2004/05 season when they finished 23rd, and as the seasons went by, the Basra-based gradually improved until they were as high as ninth in 2008/09. The 2010/11 season saw them suffer relegation from the top division for the first time but they returned straight away and even finished as high as fifth place in the 2013/14 season, their highest ever finish. The team in light blue had a poor 2015/16 season though and will definitely be hoping to improve on their 14th-place finish next season.
