With more top-four finishes than any other team in Iraq, Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya (previously known as Al-Tayaran) are one of the biggest clubs in the country. They, along with Al-Shorta, have played in every single season of the Iraqi Premier League since its foundation in 1974 and have won five titles since then, as well as four Iraqi FA Cups, the most recent of which coming in the 2015/16 season, which they later coupled with victory in the 2016 AFC Cup, winning Iraq’s fifth major continental club competition and their first ever AFC tournament. But Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, the oldest existing club in Iraq, have finished as runners-up of the Iraqi Premier League more times than any other team and have not won the league for 12 years; winning their sixth Premier League and eleventh overall league will certainly be the Falcons’ aim next season under the helm of experienced coach Basim Qasim.
